Worried About Buying the "Wrong" Piece? Here's How to Actually Choose

There's a particular kind of paralysis that hits when you're about to spend proper money on a piece of jewellery. You've narrowed it down to a few options, you like all of them, and yet somehow you still can't bring yourself to actually choose one, because what if it's the wrong one?

First things first, take a breath; this happens to almost everyone, and it's rarely as high stakes as it feels in the moment. But let's talk through how to actually make the decision instead of sitting on it for another three months.

Start with how you actually live, not how you imagine you live

It's easy to picture yourself wearing the dramatic, statement piece to endless glamorous evenings out. But if you're honest, how often do those evenings actually happen versus how often you're at your desk, doing the school run, or just pottering around at home? Choose for the life you actually have, not the one you picture in your head on your best day.

Ask what you'll still want to be wearing in five years

Trends come and go quickly, but the pieces that genuinely earn their keep tend to be the ones that don't feel tied to a particular moment. If you can picture yourself just as happily wearing it in five years as you would tomorrow, that's usually a good sign you're onto the right one.

Notice what you keep going back to

If you've been going back and forth between two pieces, pay attention to which one you find yourself thinking about when you're not even looking at them. That's usually more telling than which one photographs better or which one someone else said looked nicer.

Remember there isn't really a wrong answer

As long as you genuinely like it, and it wasn't chosen purely to impress someone else, it's very hard to actually get this wrong. Jewellery isn't like a haircut; it's not going to be stuck with you in a way you can't undo, and taste isn't fixed forever anyway. What you love today doesn't need to be what you love in ten years, and that's completely fine.

If you're still torn, visit us at Azzallure and try them on properly rather than deciding from photos. Seeing it on, in the light, on your actual hand or wrist, tends to make the decision a lot easier than it feels right now.
